Sir:-
With reference to the letter from this Department of September 9th respecting the demand made by the Authorities at Hongkong for the production of their original certificates by certain Officers of French Passenger Ships trading with that port,
I am directed by the Marquess of Salisbury to transmit to you a copy of a Despatch from Her Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires at Paris containing the reply of the French Government to the inquiries made by Her Majesty's Embassy on the subject.
The previous correspondence referred to in Mr. Townley's Despatch was forwarded on the 9th February 1893 to the Board of Trade and I am to suggest that the question which has now arisen should equally be referred to that Department.
